About

Imogen qualified into the Pensions team and joined Burges Salmon in September 2023. She studied Psychology at the University of Bath which included a placement year working for the National Crime Agency. She also completed her GDL and LPC LLM at the University of Law in Bristol.

Imogen advises pension scheme trustees and companies on a broad range of pensions legal issues, including buy-ins/outs, administration agreements, ESG and Cyber requirements and GMP equalisation. She also regularly attends networking events and conferences within the pensions sector, in particular with the Women in Pensions South West Network.

Imogen also serves as a Magistrate in the Bath and Bristol courts, showing her dedication to community, justice, fairness and appreciating different perspectives.

Experience

  • • Advising clients in relation to the buy-in and buy-out of schemes and their winding up, notably drafting and supporting on the benefit specification process as part of the Clarks’ Pension Fund buy-in with PIC for £540m.
  • • Providing trustee clients with day-to-day and strategic advice on a wide range of pensions issues, including for the trustees of the Leonardo Electronics Pension Scheme.
  • • Drafting and negotiating contracts, agreements and licences, for example for John Lewis Partnership and advising the company on the outsourcing of pension administration services to XPS Pensions Group.
  • nterpreting the provisions of existing pension scheme documentation and drafting or reviewing new definitive documentation and smaller scheme deeds, policies, and member communications.
  • • Providing training to clients on a range of legal issues including updates on section 37 and the Virgin Media case, Trustee protections, and the impact of ESG and Cyber on Pension Schemes.
