About

Jeremy is Chair of Burges Salmon’s International Strategy Committee and also leads the firm’s Intellectual Property practice, helping clients arrive at the right solution to their issue, minimising impact and maximising success. He is supported by our IP and Dispute Resolution teams, who have a proven track record in the highest-profile cases and cross-border, multi-sector expertise.

He has extensive experience in all areas of contentious and transactional IP including trade marks, patents and copyright, and has also worked extensively in the areas of sponsorship, defamation and internet issues.

Jeremy is a member of most leading IP organisations including CIPA, ITMA, MARQUES, AIPPI, PTMG and ECTA, and is a Committee Member of the INTA. He is recognised as an expert in intellectual property law by Chambers UK, Legal 500 and World Trade Mark Review.

He is a regular speaker and writer on IP issues, and is a guest lecturer on passing off and trade marks on the Oxford University IP Diploma course.

Experience

  • Victoria’s Secret: Defending Court of Appeal proceedings in a claim brought by Thomas Pink relating to its brand PINK.
  • Santa Barbara Polo Club: Representing the Club in its successful jurisdictional challenge of passing off and trade mark infringement proceedings in the High Court (and subsequently the Court of Appeal).
  • Benefit Cosmetics: Successfully defending the beauty brand in trade mark infringement litigation relating to its product Beauty and the Bay.
  • Funko: Successfully defending the leading US toy company in UK litigation relating to its Funtime Freddy collectibles range.
  • Brooks Running: Acting for the leading US running shoe brand in a claim for trade mark infringement and passing off brought by Puma, about use of the word ‘NITRO’ in relation to nitrogen-infused running shoes.
  • Harrods Group, Virgin and Truefitt & Hill: Representing and advising on international brand protection issues, including domain name and company name recovery proceedings.
