Michael is a director in our Pensions and Lifetime Savings team.
His experience includes advising across a broad range of pensions issues, with particular experience in pension de-risking projects, transactional pension work such as corporate restructurings and acquisitions, and pensions regulatory matters.
Michael’s de-risking experience is extensive and includes advising trustee, sponsor and insurer clients and working on projects ranging from developing streamlined buy-in propositions to working on some of the industry’s most complex and high-value residual risk transactions.
Experience
- Pension de-risking: Providing advice to trustees, sponsors, and insurers on the contractual and benefit elements of transactions, including PPF+ deals and residual risk transactions in excess of £1bn.
- RiverStone Management Pension and Life Assurance Plan: Providing advice to the trustees in respect of the $750 million sale of the RiverStone Europe group to CVC Capital Partners and on the subsequent preparations for de-risking the pension scheme.
- CF Fertilisers UK schemes: Providing support to the trustees of the three CF Fertiliser schemes in the context of the sponsor group’s proposed corporate restructuring.
- Multinational scheme employer: Advising the corporate group on the pension implications of its proposed restructuring and supporting with the negotiations and implementation of additional sponsor security.
- Regulatory cases: Working on leading pensions regulatory cases, including the Great Lakes and Bernard Matthews investigations.
- Project Lancaster: Advising on a wide range of complex drafting, execution and scheme administration issues arising over a twenty-year period and the pragmatic solutions available.
