About

Rachael is a Professional Support Lawyer within our Pensions & Lifetime Savings team.

Rachael graduated from Exeter University with a first-class degree in law and completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of the West of England with distinction. Rachael holds Professional Membership of the Pensions Management Institute.

She trained at Burges Salmon, qualifying into the pensions team in 2004 advising both trustees and employers on a range of pensions matters. Rachael then moved into industry completing a 19-year Pensions Management career, most recently as Head of UK Pensions for a global aerospace, defence and security company managing three schemes with total assets of c.£2.5 billion.

Rachael rejoined Burges Salmon in 2026 bringing a wealth of practical pensions experience back into the team.

With a keen interest in pensions policy, she ensures the wider team stay up to speed on developments within the industry and produces technical legal updates.

Experience

  • Pensions industry experience as Head of UK Pensions for a global aerospace, defence and security company managing DB and DC schemes with total assets of c.£2.5 billion.
  • DB and DC scheme project management: Establishing a new trust-based DC scheme; managing complex DB projects including a move from final-salary to career-average structure; closure to DB benefit accrual and a corporate trustee consolidation.
  • Government consultations: Analysing and responding to Government consultations in respect of developments including the proposed changes to DC value for money and DB surplus provisions.
  • Policy development: Key role in shaping the team’s response to policy developments.
