About

Richard is a partner in the firm’s Corporate and M&A team. He is an experienced corporate lawyer, having worked on corporate transactions for over 30 years, including private equity and venture capital transactions, mergers and acquisitions, as well as takeovers, fundraisings, reorganisations and corporate advisory.

He was head of the firm’s Corporate team for eight years, prior to leading the firm’s Corporate and Financial Institutions team until 2024. He was a founding member of the firm’s International Committee with responsibility for a number of the firm’s close relationships with overseas law firms.

Richard trained at Freshfields and qualified as a corporate tax lawyer before moving full time to the corporate transactional side. He is qualified to practise law in England and Wales.

He works across a number of sectors, including industrial and chemical, technology, business services, defence, vocational training and others.

Richard has been recognised in both Chambers and Legal 500 for a number of years, and is in Legal 500’s Hall of Fame.

  • AM Group Holding BV: Advised on its strategic partnership with Urban Automotive backed by Newport Capital, establishing a premier European organisation dedicated to the production and distribution of high-end modifications for luxury vehicles.
  • Simon Wear and management: Advised on the acquisition of a majority stake in Play Sports Network, the world’s largest cycling media company and community, from entertainment giant Warner Bros. Discovery.
  • Advised Rotterdam based Royal Sens, a leading provider of labels and packaging across Europe, on its acquisition of Tipografic one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of wet glue paper and reel-fed BOPP labels.
  • Advised Alten, a French listed group and leader in outsourced engineering, R&D and IT, on its acquisition of UK based Methods, a leading IT services consultancy and the acquisition of Radtac from its founders.
  • Fasadgruppen: Advised this Swedish company listed on Nasdaq Stockholm, on its acquisition of Clear Line, a specialised full-service contractor in façades and façade fire remediation.
  • Gooch & Housego: Advised this AIM listed provider of precision optics and photonics solutions on numerous acquisitions including Artemis (advanced thin film coatings) and VITL (life sciences).
