About

Sophie is an associate within the firm’s construction and engineering team. She advises on contentious and non-contentious construction and engineering matters, giving her in-depth exposure to challenges faced by clients.

Her focus is on energy, utilities and infrastructure and her experience covers work for funders, developers, contractors and public sector organisations.

Sophie has expertise in standard industry form contracts such as FIDIC and NEC as well as project-specific contracts. She regularly works on projects with both complex and/or international elements.

She earns high praise from the firm’s clients for her attentive approach and high-quality work, and was ranked as an ‘Associate to watch’ in the 2025 Keating Chambers review.

Experience

  • Advising NNB, a subsidiary of energy giant EDF, focused on the construction and operation of nuclear power stations on the delivery of two separate complex and politically sensitive nuclear new build projects at: (a) Hinkley Point C; and (b) Sizewell C. These are the first new nuclear power stations in the UK for over 25 years.
  • Advising a Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Alcemi joint venture company on construction contracts for three of the largest BESS projects in Europe.
  • Advising a project company on the construction aspects (EPC (FIDIC) and O&M and associated ancillary documents) of its 20MW biomass CHP plant in Widnes, Lancashire
  • Advising Bristol City Council in respect of its City Leap initiative, a series of energy and infrastructure investment opportunities, with the aim of making Bristol carbon neutral by 2050.
  • Negotiation and drafting of project documentation for reserve power projects including battery, solar, wind and gas technologies for several privately owned employers and contractors.
  • Assisting a major contractor on trouble-shooting and a complex adjudication in relation to a gas compressor infrastructure project under NEC3.
