UK Government announces Transport Decarbonisation Plan

Building on the Government's papers on "Road to Zero", "Maritime 2050" and "Aviation 2050", the Government has today announced work on the UK's very first Transport Decarbonisation Plan.

The plan is intended to scale up, aggregate and co-ordinate Government, industry and society efforts across the whole transport sector to achieve net zero emissions across all modes of transport. 

The announcement is a welcome affirmation of the UK's commitment to net zero emissions and recognition of the role of transport changes in that goal.  It also reflects the increasingly integrated and multi-modal nature of mobility as regards how goods and people are moved and the important role of technology and innovation in transport to tackling the challenge of net zero emissions.

Due to be complete next year, the first-of-a-kind plan will set out in detail what government, business and society will need to do to deliver the significant emissions reduction needed from all modes of transport. In particular it will consider how UK technology and innovation can be implemented to encourage major changes to the way people and goods move across the UK.
