Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste (the “PPWR”), which entered into force on 11 February 2025, will start to apply to companies on 12 August 2026

Companies that place packaging or packaged products on the EU market from this date must comply with the new regulatory obligations due to enter application under the PPWR. UK manufacturers supplying packaged products to the EU market are directly impacted by the PPWR and must navigate the new regime as they prepare for compliance.

Here are three key questions to consider as you prepare to comply with the PPWR:

  • What is your role under PPWR?
  • How well do you understand your supply chain and do you have a strategy for engaging with your packaging suppliers in relation to PPWR compliance?
  • Do you have EU declarations of conformity in place to enable you to continue supplying packaging or packaged products to the EU market in compliance with the PPWR from 12 August?

We help UK companies assess their obligations under the PPWR and prepare for compliance as part of our ESG legal services. Please contact Michael Barlow or Gabi Gershuny if you would like to find out more.
