Challenges and pathways to Industrial Decarbonisation

I was a pleasure to contribute to this morning's Westminster Energy Environment and Transport Forum on Priorities for UK Industry Decarbonisation.

I spoke about the challenges and pathways to industrial decarbonisation.  The full conference materials are available from the WEET Forum, but as a summary:

1. It seems likely that current regulatory pressures on industrial decarbonisation will only increase, specifically in respect of carbon pricing implemented through the impending replacement of EU ETS with UK ETS.
2. With regard to decarbonisation solutions, Carbon Capture and Storage will be able to address some residual carbon emissions where these are unavoidable, but it should not be regarded as the sole or main solution.
3. We should expect to see transition to the industrial usage of hydrogen on an accelerating scale and implementation of government policy (and potentially incentives) to support this.

Industry should prepare accordingly.
