Inspired by the World Cup? Government delivers ‘hat-trick’ of LGPS guidance.

Having changed formation (with the number of LGPS pools having reduced from eight to six) resulting in quite significant moves in the transfer market (with a number of LGPS Funds having to move to new LGPS pools) and technically having gone into ‘extra-time’ for the delivery of the legislative provisions already (and to no-doubt avoid a proverbial dreaded ‘penalty’ shoot-out with LGPS stakeholders), the government has delivered a ‘hat-trick’ of welcome LGPS statutory guidance just in time for the England game against DR Congo.
Will this be ‘winning’ statutory guidance? Only time will tell, but with the mid-season change of the Director of Football (the Prime Minister) and potentially a change of Manager (the Secretary of State at MHCLG) depending on who the new Director of Football appoints to the role, the hope is probably that the publication of the guidance will help settle and galvanize team LGPS for the remainder of the season and beyond (without the need for the intervention of the video assistant referee (VAR) – the courts!) and ensure that the LGPS is Fit for the Future.

The government will no doubt hope that the three pieces of statutory guidance released are the ‘Three Lions’ that are needed to ensure it’s coming home for the LGPS. Hopefully the changes made are not too hot for some like a ‘Vindaloo’ and that instead that the LGPS remains a ‘World in Motion’ for its participating employers and members and is Fit for the Future.
