Growing investor confidence in UK defence, security and sovereign technology businesses has been underlined by a $20 million Series A fundraising for StirlingX, the drone operations and data intelligence company supporting organisations across critical national infrastructure and defence. The investment comes at a time of increasing focus on strengthening sovereign UK capabilities in strategically important technologies.

Our Corporate and M&A team advised StirlingX on its Series A funding round, which was led by Ventura Capital and included participation from existing investor RCM Private Markets Master Fund, managed by Rokos Capital Management US, and GALLOS Technologies.

The investment will support the continued growth of StirlingX and accelerate the development of its technology and data intelligence capabilities as demand for secure, trusted and actionable data continues to increase across both the public and private sectors.

Founded by CEO Dean Jones, StirlingX combines drone-enabled surveillance, data capture and intelligence capabilities to support customers operating in complex and often challenging environments. The company works across a range of sectors, including critical national infrastructure and defence.

The transaction adds to our growing track record of advising innovative businesses operating across the defence, security and advanced technology sectors. It also reflects the increasing focus on developing sovereign UK capabilities in strategically important areas, including defence, intelligence, critical national infrastructure and advanced data technologies.

Our team was led by Corporate and M&A team partner Alex Lloyd, senior associate Niall Mackle, associate Joanna Grover and trainee solicitor Matthew Pegler. Incentives advice was provided by partner Nigel Watson, senior associate Claire Withers and associate Sam Taylor.

“This transaction reflects the growing importance of supporting UK businesses that are developing cutting-edge technologies in strategically important sectors. As governments, investors and industry place increasing emphasis on sovereign capability, companies such as StirlingX have a critical role to play in strengthening the UK’s defence, security and critical infrastructure ecosystem. We are pleased to have supported Dean and the wider team on this important milestone as they continue to scale the business and deliver innovative data intelligence solutions.”
