We are pleased to announce the appointment of James Maynard as a partner in the firm’s Corporate & M&A team, based in London. James’ appointment strengthens the firm’s technology practice and supports the development of our tech-focused Corporate and M&A team.
James brings more than 20 years’ experience advising fast-growth businesses, from scale-ups to multi-billion-pound public companies. His career combines a strong foundation in private practice M&A and corporate finance with senior in-house roles at the intersection of technology, growth and capital markets. This breadth of experience underpins his ability to lead complex, high-profile transactions and advise boards, committees and executive teams. Prior to joining Burges Salmon, James was General Counsel at e-commerce platform Farfetch, solar developer PVcase and gaming company Dream Games, and previously served as Senior Legal Counsel at Sky.
James’ track record in building legal functions from the ground up, scaling teams and delivering multi-jurisdictional M&A and corporate finance strategies for founders, investors and operators in the tech sector will be central to expanding our Corporate Technology offering. This practice draws on the firm’s full-service platform – spanning IP, technology, property, employment, regulatory and incentives – to guide clients through significant corporate events across their business lifecycle.
“I am thrilled to be joining Burges Salmon and to play an integral role in developing a leading Corporate Tech practice. The firm’s culture, deep bench of talent and appetite for investment position it exceptionally well for growth, and I’m excited to be part of that journey.”
James Maynard, Partner
“We’re delighted to welcome someone of James’ calibre to the firm. He brings a rare combination of board-level in-house experience and high-profile, international deal execution that aligns perfectly with our clients’ needs and our ambition to build a market-leading Corporate Technology team. This is a fantastic opportunity for our firm, with the tech sector presenting enormous potential for growth, product and service development.”
Nick Graves, Partner
We have a strong Corporate & M&A practice advising multinational organisations and institutions, entrepreneurial businesses and high-net-worth individuals. Much of the firm’s work has an international element, helping overseas clients expand into the UK and supporting UK-based businesses to grow internationally.
In December, the firm reported completing more than 65 Corporate & M&A transactions in 2025, with a combined deal value of approximately £3 billion, acting on deals across financial services, technology, healthcare, real estate and human capital.
James is the fourth partner to join our fast‑growing Corporate & M&A team in the last 14 months, following the appointments of Charles Claisse and Jonathan Cantor, both based in London, and the promotion of Julie Book.
