We are pleased to have been named Outstanding Organisation of the Year and Amplify Organisation of the Year at the 2026 Bristol Women in Business Charter Awards.

These two awards recognise organisations embedding gender equity at every level and demonstrating clear, sustained progress in creating inclusive workplaces. For the Amplify Organisation of the Year category, the judges recognised the firm’s exceptional progress in strengthening pathways for women’s career development and amplifying female voices through strategic internal initiatives.

This double recognition reflects Burges Salmon’s long‑standing commitment to enabling women to thrive, lead and progress across the firm. The judges commended the firm’s data‑led approach, noting an “excellent range of activities” designed to increase opportunities for women, reduce the gender pay gap and support career progression. They highlighted the significant increase in female partner representation since 2020, which is supported by a sustained trend of near‑equal promotion rates between men and women over the past five years.

Additional commendations included Burges Salmon’s investment in Family and Health Support provisions, the creation of career‑development secondments, and strategic partnerships such as its work with Women’s Work Lab, which has led to direct employment opportunities. Overall, judges recognised a strong, top‑down commitment to equity, reinforced by the firm’s Platinum Investors in People accreditation.

Burges Salmon’s approach is grounded in listening closely to its people and working actively with its people-led networks to drive meaningful change. These networks have played a central role in shaping policies, initiatives and support structures at the firm that help its people at all stages of their careers.

These awards are a meaningful recognition of the progress we’ve made in creating a culture and everyday practices that support women across the firm. It’s encouraging to see that work acknowledged, and it reinforces our commitment to continuing to build an environment where everyone can succeed. We really value the work of the Bristol Women in Business Charter and the role it plays in driving greater equity across the region. It’s a privilege to be part of a community working together to create lasting and wide-reaching impact.

Alice Bretherton, Chief People Officer

This double recognition caps off what has been a hugely successful 12 months for the firm. We’ve continued to build momentum across our people initiatives, strengthening the support, opportunities and progression pathways we offer. To be recognised in both categories is a reflection of the commitment shown across every part of the business. I’m incredibly proud of the work our teams are doing to create an environment where women can thrive and delighted to see those efforts acknowledged through these awards.
