Burges Salmon guides Biscuiteers through ownership change, supporting long-term growth and safeguarding c. 160 jobs

We have advised the founders of Biscuiteers, the original hand-iced biscuit company and certified B Corp, on its change of ownership following a restructure that will ensure the long-term future of the brand. The transaction safeguards the jobs of all c.160 people working in the business who have transferred to the new company and operations are continuing as normal.

Founded in 2007 by Stevie Congdon and Harriet Hastings, Biscuiteers operates from a purpose-built manufacturing HQ in Wimbledon and has a boutique icing café in Notting Hill. The deal sees the business and assets of Biscuiteers acquired by a newly formed company, which will be majority owned by its founders and members of the management team.

Burges Salmon’s Restructuring and Insolvency team advised Biscuiteers’ founders, led by partner Emily Scaife and senior associate Nikita Goodwill. Emily comments: “It’s been a pleasure to work with the Biscuiteer’s founders to secure the future of the beloved original hand-iced biscuit company, ensuring business continuity for its operations, people and consumers.

Francesca Pittaway, CEO of Biscuiteers, comments: “This transaction represents a significant milestone for Biscuiteers. With a strengthened balance sheet and backing of the newly formed company we are ideally positioned to accelerate the brand’s growth. I am genuinely excited to continue working alongside Harriet and the rest of team as we embark on the next chapter of Biscuiteers’ journey.

Harriet Hastings, co-founder of Biscuiteers, says: “We’re grateful to Emily and Nikita at Burges Salmon for their excellent support, the team handled the complexities with ease and provided excellent advice from inception to completion.
