Burges Salmon has been appointed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) to its newly created legal panel.
Burges Salmon will be providing FSCS with a range of legal services and is one of eight firms appointed to the panel, which FSCS will utilise to manage the majority of its legal advice and representation.
FSCS is the UK's compensation fund of last resort for customers of authorised financial services firms. Its full legal panel comprises four work categories that will cover core FSCS legal services, Scottish legal services, employment law & ancillary legal services, and lower value dispute resolution services. The panel commenced in January 2015 and will run for three years, with the potential to be extended by a further year.
Kari McCormick, a partner in the Disputes & Litigation team at Burges Salmon said: “Financial Services is one of the key sectors for us as a business. FSCS plays a vital role in maintaining stability and confidence in the UK's financial services sector. We are delighted to have been appointed to the FSCS panel and very much look forward to working with the team, and building what we hope will become a long-standing relationship.”
FSCS protects deposits, insurance, investments and home finance. Since 2001, it has protected more than 4.5m people and paid out £26bn in compensation in response to firm failures. FSCS is funded by financial services firms.
