The centre, which is run by Bristol Music Trust, hosts music making sessions for hundreds of children in the city every week and is the hub for music education in Bristol. The updated space will provide a more welcoming learning environment for young people and a better place to work for Bristol Plays Music onsite team.

Giving back to the local community is a central part of Burges Salmon’s business and with the entire Operations team taking part over five days of painting, this is the biggest volunteering event that the firm will undertake in 2019.

Burges Salmon’s chief operating officer, Emma Dowden, says: “It’s been fantastic working with Bristol Plays Music this week in Southmead. The whole team has had the opportunity to meet the onsite team and learn about the programmes and educational classes that are delivered here. We’re grateful to be able to support this organisation in providing a better space for Bristol’s young people to learn to play music.”

Phil Castang, director of learning and engagement at Bristol Music Trust adds: “The work that these volunteers have completed in Southmead will have a massive impact on the hundreds of students who come through our doors each week. It’s great when a local business can contribute to the future of musical education in our city and the difference here will be felt immediately.”

Alongside the firm’s volunteering programme, Burges Salmon continues to support Bristol Music Trust as it moves forward on the £48.8 million transformation of Colston Hall, understanding that now, more than ever, the delivery of culture and education programmes are becoming a shared responsibility between the public and private sectors.

Bristol Music Trust works with 130 schools and youth groups across Bristol and supports 30,000 young people per year through music education. The organisation has recently launched the Earthsong Programme, an initiative developed in partnership with the Earthsong Foundation that will create opportunities for over 4,500 young people in Bristol to access music education.
