About

Darren is an Associate in the firm’s Real Estate team, working principally within the renewable energy and rural property teams.

Having joined the team from a background in renewable energy projects, he has significant experience acting for developers, landowners and funders in connection with energy developments across a range of technologies including onshore wind, battery storage, solar, hydrogen and anaerobic digestion.

Darren also acts for individuals and businesses in property matters across rural Scotland, including the acquisition and disposal of farms, estates, forestry, sportings, salmon fishings and country houses as well as advising on agricultural tenancies and other rural matters.

He is admitted to practise in both Scotland and in England & Wales and has experience advising clients in both jurisdictions.

Experience

  • Oxygen Conservation: Advising on the acquisition of three large Scottish Estates for innovative natural capital uses and sustainable land projects including habitat creation/restoration, woodland creation and peatland restoration.
  • Gresham House: Advising on the acquisition of battery storage projects in Scotland.
  • Simec Atlantis Energy: Advising in relation to the development of a proposed large battery storage project in Scotland.
  • OPDE UK: Advising in relation to its battery storage portfolio in Scotland. This includes a mix of both single and multi-landowner transactions.
  • Balance Power: Advising in relation to the development of various battery storage projects and solar farms in Scotland. This includes a mix of both single and multi-landowner transactions.
  • Wind2: Advising in relation to the development of various onshore wind farms in Scotland.
