Andrew is a Director in the Private Wealth team and specialises in complex tax, estate planning, and trusts work.

He advises a broad range of clients including landed estates, farming families, family businesses including companies and partnerships, trustees, executors, and beneficiaries.

Andrew’s work covers succession and wealth planning, probate, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, and issues relating to the ownership of heritage property and artwork.

He also advises on complex land transactions for private individuals, family companies, partnerships, and non-UK resident purchasers including stamp duty land tax (SDLT) and land transactions tax (LTT).

He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group.

Experience

  • Landowner and estate owner: Advising individual and trustee owners of development and solar sites including partition arrangements between trust beneficiaries. Advising the family owners of a diversified commercial and arable estate including amendments to existing partnerships, a new partnership, and significant gifts of land as part of the planned succession to the next generation.
  • Heritage property owners: Advising owners of heritage property and artwork including exemptions from Estate Duty, conditional exemption from IHT, maintenance funds, and related undertakings to HMRC.
  • Administrators of business owner’s estate: Advising on the administration of a c.£20 million estate involving issues of undue influence around significant lifetime gifts and potential insolvency.
  • Trustees of land: Advising trustees on their powers and duties when dividing land between discretionary beneficiaries.
  • Oxygen Conservation: Advice on SDLT and LTT for purchases of farmland and estates across England and Wales.
  • The Crown Estate: SDLT advice in relation to complex leasehold and freehold reorganisations across both rural and development portfolios across England.
