About

Andy is an associate in the firm’s Construction & Engineering team, having joined the firm as a trainee in 2018. He advises on both contentious and non-contentious construction and engineering work specialising in key aspects of contract management and delivery.

During his time at the firm, Andy has amassed extensive experience across various sectors. He has advised clients on a diverse range of projects including renewable energy (solar, wind, nuclear, bioenergy and marine), transport (road and rail), water & utilities, building safety, and commercial, residential and leisure developments. His expertise encompasses evaluating and advising on the legal merits of claims, troubleshooting, negotiating and drafting settlement agreements, and advising on contractor insolvency issues.

Andy also acts for clients in dispute resolution proceedings and is a highly skilled practitioner with experience of adjudication, arbitration mediation, the Pre-Action Protocol for Construction & Engineering Disputes and enforcement proceedings in the Technology and Construction Court.

Experience

  • Major renewable energy contractor: Successfully defended our client in three simultaneous adjudications related to the energy availability at three solar farm sites.
  • International energy company: Successfully defended our client in undertaking the construction of a UK nuclear facility in an adjudication against a contractor under an NEC3 Option D form of contract.
  • International renewable energy companies: Acting for two international renewable energy companies in the defence of legal proceedings brought in the High Court relating to onshore wind farms and achieving settlement following mediation.
  • European renewable energy company: Advising on two of its wind farm sites following the insolvency of its Balance of Plant contractor.
  • National train operator: Advising on the resolution and commercial settlement of a circa. £7m dispute with its contractor under an NEC4 Option A form of contract.
  • Tier 1 contractor: Acting for a UK Tier 1 contractor in disputes relating to a £160m highways project, including assisting in multiple adjudications and two arbitrations.
