Carly trained at Burges Salmon and qualified into the Funds and Financial Regulation team in January 2023. She has experience working on a wide range of regulated funds and financial regulatory matters across the financial services sector.

Carly’s expertise includes advising on FCA applications, such as authorisations, changes to fund portfolios, and change of control. She also regularly advises on matters related to the regulatory perimeter, financial promotions, insurance distribution, CASS, and conduct of business. Carly’s comprehensive knowledge and practical experience enables her to adopt a practical and commercial approach to regulatory compliance and change, helping clients navigate complex regulatory landscapes effectively.

Experience

  • Border to Coast Pensions Partnership: Advising one of the largest pension pools in the UK, managing approximately £64 billion in assets, on launching the first LGPS (Local Government Pension Scheme) real estate ACS (Authorised Contractual Scheme) with multiple sub-funds.
  • Shepherds Friendly: Advising on the manufacture and development of insurance products, including distribution and reinsurance agreements.
  • St. James’s Place: Completing a secondment to St. James’s Place to advise on the formation and regulation of retail fund structures, including obtaining FCA approval.
  • Host ACDs and Investment Managers: Providing legal and regulatory support on fund launches, changes, and terminations, advising on the regulation of FCA-regulated fund structures such as UK UCITS, NURS, QIS, and LTAFs across OEICs, AUTs, and ACSs.
  • Fintech companies: Advising numerous payments and consumer lending firms on launching new products and services, regulatory strategy, and key legal agreements, including terms of business and material outsourcing.
  • Host ACD client: Advising a Host ACD client on the launch of a new cross-border master-feeder structure, where the master fund was an Irish-domiciled UCITS fund and the feeder fund was a UK-domiciled UCITS fund.
