About
Hal commenced his training contract with the firm in September 2024 and has sat in our Projects, Construction & Engineering, Dispute Resolution and Corporate M&A teams. He has also completed a client secondment to Equans in London, a Bouygues group company specialising in transitions for modernisation and sustainable development.
Hal attended the University of Bristol from 2018-2022, studying an undergraduate degree in mathematics before transitioning to a masters in law. After completing a Vacation Scheme in the firm’s Banking & Finance team, he secured a training contract with the firm, before going on to study an LLM (with SQE 1&2) at the University of Law achieving top quintile results in all SRA Solicitor’s Qualifying Examinations (SQE).
Whilst completing his SQE, Hal worked within our Dispute Resolution team as a paralegal supporting on a public inquiry of significant national importance
Experience
- Public Procurement: Advising public sector clients. including assisting in producing template procurement documents in compliance with the Procurement Act 2023 for numerous heat network projects and advising on the commercial delivery models and competitive tendering process for the advanced zoning programme.
- Renewable Energy: Supporting on the development and negotiation of off take / revenue arrangements including corporate / virtual PPAs, Route to Market agreements and government incentives.
- Construction and Facilities Management (in-house at Equans): Advising on and drafting EPC and O&M contracts in varying sectors alongside supporting successful project delivery on numerous PFI contracts.
- Corporate M&A: Advising on a range of reorganisations, disposals and acquisitions including commercial and residential rooftop portfolios and ground mounted solar projects.
- Disputes: Advising on complex commercial disputes, with a focus on the defence and procurement sectors, with a focus on single source contract regulations and critical path analysis.
- Public Inquiries: Acted on the most complex matter in the firm’s history on an Inquiry of significant national importance, with a focus on e-discovery and utilising AI to streamline matters.
