About

Karen is a senior associate in the firm’s Construction & Engineering team having joined the firm on qualification in 2014.

She specialises in contentious matters and has significant experience in complex trouble shooting advice and strategy in order to avoid costly disputes, as well as in advising on contractor insolvency issues. She is highly experienced in adjudication, arbitration, the Pre-Action Protocol for Construction and Engineering Disputes and proceedings in the Technology and Construction Court.

Karen has significant experience in the built environment sector and advises on all aspects of building safety and building safety claims. She regularly works with both developers, contractors and public sector clients in this sector and has particular experience in working with hotel, leisure and entertainment sector clients.

She is also experienced in complex renewable energy disputes, including advising on hydrogen and fusion projects.

  • Birmingham City Council: Advising on the construction aspects of delivery stage of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
  • AEG: Advising in relation to the new retail development at The O2, London.
  • Luxury hotel developer: Advising on defective cladding and pursuing a claim in adjudication proceedings against a contractor.
  • Global private real estate and leisure investment firm: Advising on building safety defects in a development with higher-risk buildings in London.
  • Fusion developer: Advising on the research and delivery phases of a ground-breaking international project to generate fusion energy as a large-scale and carbon-free source of energy.
  • National contractor: Acting in a series of adjudications and arbitrations following disputes with our client’s design team and the authority on a £160 million highways project.
