About

Matt is a partner in our Dispute Resolution department. His practice covers business critical and high value commercial disputes (including litigation and arbitration), internal investigations and regulatory enforcement. He advises clients across a number of sectors, but has a particular focus on the Financial Services sector.

He acts on a wide range of commercial disputes, but has particular expertise in M&A related disputes (e.g. breach of warranty & indemnity, deferred consider and non-compete matter), insurance disputes for policyholders, banking and finance disputes, financial miss-selling claims and professional negligence.

On the regulatory front, Matt regularly advises clients on contentious regulatory matters, with particular experience of dealing with the FRC, FOS, ICO and the FRC. His expertise covers internal and external investigations, public inquiries, and enforcement action. He also has extensive experience advising FCA regulated clients on consumer redress matters.

Experience

  • US Based Conglomerate: Acting in Commercial Court proceedings alleging breach of warranty in relation to the acquisition of a chemicals business.
  • Financial Services Compensation Scheme: Acting for FSCS as intervenor in Court of Appeal proceedings regarding limitation periods under the Third Party (Rights against Insurers) Act 2010.
  • Construction Company: Advising major D&B Contractor on multiple high value PI and CAR/EAR insurance coverage disputes, arising from waste and energy projects
  • Wealth Management Businesses: Advising various clients on parallel FOS and FCA investigations, and subsequent consumer redress, relating to NSAs held in SIPPs.
  • Media Company: Advising client through an FCA investigation into whether marketing activities involved unauthorised FinProms and breaches of the general prohibition.
  • Post Office Limited: Member of the senior partner team leading our role as POL’s Recognised Legal Representative in Phases 5 to 7 of the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry.
