About

Richard is a highly experienced real estate transactional and advisory lawyer, with over 25 years’ experience of transactional real estate work, with an emphasis on commercial property investment, development and asset management in the office, industrial and retail sectors. He also advises on substantial housing-led community and regeneration projects.

Since joining the partnership in 2004, Richard has held a wide variety of key management roles including head of the firm’s Investment & Asset Management Team, head of the Real Estate Department and chair of the Built Environment sector team. He continues to head our dedicated Tenant & Corporate Occupier team providing transactional and advisory services to occupier clients.

He has advised clients in both the public and private sectors including some of the real estate industry’s leading organisations. He has particular expertise in working with sensitive and heritage property, operating within a high security, politically charged environment and the delivery of legal services in the context of a longer-term strategic plan.

Previously described in Legal 500 as the “perfect client partner”, he is currently listed as a leading partner in each of the directory’s general commercial property, development and corporate occupiers rankings and has been Band 1 ranked by Chambers UK for over a decade. Richard has also been a committee member of the British Council for Offices for some years and an active supporter of Real Estate Balance.

  • John Lewis & Waitrose: Advising on logistics and distribution holdings and numerous new store openings.
  • Linmere: Advising Aviva Investors, Lands Improvement Holdings and St Alban’s Diocese on a 630 acre, 5,000+ dwelling development project.
  • Border to Coast Pensions Partnership: Advising on the launch of a £1.2 billion ACS UK real estate fund.
  • The Worshipful Company of Leathersellers: Advising one of the City of London’s oldest livery companies in relation to its Bishopsgate property holdings.
  • LGPS Central: Advising fund manager DTZ Investors on the UK Direct Property Fund targeting £500 million investment across the UK.
  • UK Atomic Energy Authority: Advising on an income-strip substantial office/R&D development funded by L&G.
