About

Tom joined the firm in 2014 and became a director within the Real Estate Energy team in 2023.

He regularly advises landowners, developers and investors on a variety of energy and infrastructure projects and has overseen the successful delivery of countless renewable energy generation and storage developments. His experience across a wide range of technologies includes onshore and offshore (fixed and floating) wind, large-scale solar, battery energy storage, combined heat and power and biomass, as well as nuclear and fusion developments.

Tom works closely with the firm’s Planning and Compulsory Purchase team leading the day-to-day legal land work streams on several projects consented under development consent orders (DCOs). He is experienced in the integration of voluntary land agreement strategy within the wider DCO process including dealing with agreements entered into with statutory undertakers and other stakeholders.

Experience

  • Anesco, OPDE, Ecodev and Sirius Renewables: Regularly advising leading renewables developers on solar and battery energy storage projects through site assembly to the onward asset / share sales of those developments (both pre and post construction).
  • Infinite Renewables: Advising on the development and financing of multi-technology energy centres, including at the Royal Mint which includes two wind turbines, a solar farm, a battery energy storage system and hydrogen-ready CHP plant.
  • Equinor: Providing land strategy advice in relation to the Sheringham and Dudgeon offshore wind extension projects (including export cable and substation) prior to and in support of the projects’ associated successful DCO application.
  • Blue Gem Wind: Acting on all associated real estate aspects for the onshore substation and cable route of the Erebus offshore floating wind project, to be located in the Celtic Sea, consented under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989.
  • Onshore Wind Developers: Advising in relation to multiple large onshore wind projects across Wales, securing land rights for development, cabling, environmental mitigation and for turbine delivery and associated construction traffic.
  • UK Atomic Energy Authority and EDF: Providing land management and site assembly advice for numerous existing assets and new build nuclear and fusion initiatives.
