Uba is a senior associate in the firm’s Construction and Engineering team, specialising in infrastructure and energy/renewables projects (including battery energy storage, solar, wind, LNG, waste to energy, and nuclear).
He advises all stakeholders across the UK and internationally including funders/investors, developers and contractors across a range of projects including complicated, bespoke and/or international structures.
He has expertise in standard form contracts (including FIDIC, NEC, IChemE and LOGIC) and bespoke contracts, development agreements, operation and maintenance arrangements and major supply contracts, as well as reviewing and drafting project specific ancillary documentation such as bonds, guarantees, direct agreements, and collateral warranties.
Uba regularly interfaces with multi-jurisdictional teams on projects/transactions with international elements.
Prior to joining Burges Salmon, Uba was part of an award-winning energy and projects team, advising on a wide variety of energy and infrastructure projects across West Africa.
Experience
- Advising developers including Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Atlantic Green, and others with the tendering, procurement, negotiation and drafting of construction and O&M documentation for battery storage projects ranging in size from 50MW to 500MW+.
- Octopus Energy: Advising on the development and construction of solar schemes in the UK.
- Carrying out due diligence on various battery and mixed-portfolio transactions, including for funders, investors and sellers.
- Confidential: Advising a developer in connection with a significant new nuclear build project.
- The Facility for Energy Inclusion (FEI): Advising FEI on the construction and operation arrangements in relation to the financing of greenfield and refinancing of operating commercial and industrial solar power projects across East / Southern Africa.
- Confidential: Advising a developer of a UK waste to energy project on project structuring, EPC/EPCM/construction contracts, O&M arrangements and interfaces with funding arrangements.
- Confidential: Advising a funder in the negotiation and drafting of construction and operation contracts for the first of several planned large, low-carbon indoor farms.
- *Advised on the development and construction of a solar project in West Africa to transition the energy supply for state government buildings from diesel generators to solar energy. This involved overseeing the bid process for the selection of the preferred developer and negotiating the build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract, as well as EPC and O&M contracts.
- *Advised a group of development finance institutions regarding their equity investment in a power generation company for the construction, development, operation, and maintenance of a portfolio of mini grids serving over 11,000 customers in rural communities in West Africa.
