Darren is a dual-qualified Associate in the firm’s Real Estate team, working within the rural property, strategic land, and renewable energy teams across Scotland and England & Wales.

Darren acts for private individuals, limited companies, partnerships and trusts in property matters across both jurisdictions, including on the acquisition and disposal of farms, estates, forestry, salmon fishings and country houses. He also advises on agricultural tenancies and other rural matters and is a member of the Agricultural Law Association.

He also has experience advising landowners on strategic land opportunities as well as acting for developers, landowners and funders in connection with energy developments across a range of technologies including onshore wind, battery storage, solar, hydrogen and anaerobic digestion.

Experience

  • Oxygen Conservation: Advising on the acquisition of four significant Scottish Estates for innovative natural capital uses and sustainable land projects, including habitat creation/restoration, woodland creation and peatland restoration.
  • Institutional landowners: Advising various institutional landowners in the sale and acquisition of farmland, rural estates, and residential properties.
  • Consortium of landowners: Advising a consortium of landowners in relation to the promotion of their land for residential development.
  • OPDE UK: Advising in relation to its battery storage portfolio in Scotland. This includes a mix of both single and multi-landowner transactions.
  • Balance Power: Advising in relation to the development of various battery storage projects and solar farms in Scotland. This includes a mix of both single and multi-landowner transactions.
  • Wind2: Advising in relation to the development of various onshore wind farms in Scotland.
