Employment Edit - what's new in employment law

Early conciliation procedure becomes mandatory; county courts unify; DWP publishes guide to Direct Earnings Attachments; changes to timescales for providing employee liability information under TUPE.

Welcome to Employment Edit, our regular new update giving the pick of the key developments in employment law from the last couple of weeks:

  • The new Acas early conciliation (EC) procedure, which began on 6 April 2014, becomes mandatory on 6 May 2014.
  • On 22 April 2014, the county courts became one single County Court and fees for making a County Court or High Court claim were increased
  • The DWP has published an employers' guide which explains how to implement a Direct Earnings Attachment, used by the DWP as a way of recovering overpayment of benefits
  • The period of time before a TUPE transfer by which employee liability information must be provided increases from 14 to 28 days for transfers on or after 1 May 2014
