About

Amanda is a senior lawyer in Burges Salmon’s Commercial and Technology team, having joined the firm in 2019.

She specialises in data protection, privacy, information governance, AI, digital transformation and consumer regulatory matters. Amanda advises healthcare organisations, technology suppliers, retailers, transport operators and public sector bodies on complex digital transformation programmes, adopting new technologies including AI deployments, data sharing arrangements and regulatory compliance.

She regularly supports clients on the full lifecycle of data protection compliance, including privacy governance frameworks, DPIAs, data sharing arrangements, international data transfers, data subject access requests, cyber incidents and data breaches.

Amanda is a member of the Society for Computers and Law (SCL).

Experience

  • Leading European healthcare provider: Advising on the drafting and implementation of an intra-group data sharing, processing and transfer framework with its global parent company to support a large-scale data integration project.
  • Leading NHS Foundation Trust: Advising on the adoption of AI technologies in primary care, including procurement, governance and data protection considerations relating to ambient voice technology.
  • A major UK transport operator: Advised on a significant cybersecurity incident and personal data breach, including incident response, engagement with the regulator, contractual risk assessment and wider incident response strategy.
  • Public sector bodies: Advising on complex Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, information rights disputes, transparency obligations and the application of FOIA exemptions in the context of procurement, governance and public sector decision-making.
  • Bristol City Council: Advising on the data protection aspects of its City Leap programme, a key initiative supporting Bristol’s transition to becoming a carbon-neutral city by 2050.
  • John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose: Advising on data protection in relation to various commercial collaborations, including the renewal of Waitrose’s partnership agreement with Welcome Break and John Lewis & Partners’ concession agreement with The Floor Room (part of the Carpetright Group).
  • Retail and consumer-facing businesses: Advising on customer data use, privacy compliance, consumer regulatory requirements, marketing and adtech.
