About
Elizabeth is a Senior Associate in Burges Salmon’s dispute resolution team, advising clients nationally and internationally on all aspects of dispute resolution. She specializes in the Financial Services, Insurance, and Banking sectors, with extensive experience in both court proceedings and alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation. Elizabeth is supported by our wider dispute resolution department, which has a proven track record in the highest-profile cases and cross-border, multi-sector expertise.
Elizabeth gained valuable in-house experience during a secondment as a junior solicitor to the Commercial Banking Litigation team at Lloyds Banking Group. This taught her the importance of taking the time to understand each client’s unique situation and goals and seeking to resolve disputes in a commercial and cost-efficient manner.
Elizabeth holds degrees and academic prizes from the University of Oxford, the University of Bristol, and the University of Law.
Experience
- Acting for Claimants in a multi-million pound High Court claim for just compensation / financial compensation.
- Managing a number of intricate and high-value claims on behalf of policyholders against insurers on issues such as business interruption during the COVID-19 Pandemic, cyber-attacks, and professional negligence of sub-contractors.
- Providing detailed legal opinions to multiple international banks on complex enforcement and jurisdiction issues affecting loan agreements and guarantees following the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union.
- Advising an investment platform in relation to commercially significant FOS claims and an FCA investigation, including consideration of a judicial review.
- Acting for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in pursuit of recoveries.
- Advising various clients on the breadth and impact of the FCA insurance perimeter on their operations and methods of alleviating associated risks.
