About

Amanda is a senior lawyer in Burges Salmon’s Commercial and Technology team, having joined the firm in 2019.

She specialises in data protection, privacy, information governance, AI, digital transformation and consumer regulatory matters. Amanda advises healthcare organisations, technology suppliers, retailers, transport operators and public sector bodies on complex digital transformation programmes, adopting new technologies including AI deployments, data sharing arrangements and regulatory compliance. She regularly supports clients on the full lifecycle of data protection compliance, including privacy governance frameworks, DPIAs, data sharing arrangements, international data transfers, data subject access requests, cyber incidents and data breaches.

She works closely with senior stakeholders on strategically important projects involving emerging technologies, the use of AI, large-scale data processing and significant regulatory or reputational risk.

Amanda is a member of the Society for Computers and Law (SCL).

Experience

  • Leading NHS Foundation Trust: Advising on the adoption of AI technologies in primary care, including procurement, governance and data protection considerations relating to ambient voice technology.
  • Advising government bodies, NHS organisations and other public authorities on complex Freedom of Information Act requests, disclosure risks, regulatory scrutiny and information rights disputes, including in relation to major procurements, commercial contracts and high-profile public sector decisions.
  • Bristol City Council: Advising on the data protection aspects of its City Leap programme, a key initiative supporting Bristol’s transition to becoming a carbon-neutral city by 2050.
  • Major infrastructure and energy projects: Advising developers and project sponsors on privacy, information governance and stakeholder engagement issues arising from consultation exercises, landowner engagement and regulatory risk.
  • Technology suppliers and digital transformation programmes: Advising on data protection, AI governance, cloud services, data migrations, technology contracting and complex data sharing arrangements across regulated sectors.
  • Retail and consumer-facing businesses: Advising on customer data use, privacy compliance, consumer regulatory requirements, marketing and adtech.
