Carlene Nicol is a senior associate in the firm’s Employment team. Carlene advises employers on all areas of employment law (contentious and non-contentious).

She has extensive experience in: advising on all aspects of the employment lifecycle; advising on and negotiating the employment aspects of business transfers and outsourcings; defending employment litigation (with substantive experience in defending equal pay claims); advising on senior executive and partnership issues; the implementation of large-scale, local and international projects and change programmes; and advising on the application of regulatory requirements in the financial services sector.

Carlene has worked in the UK and Hong Kong.

She advises a multitude of local and global clients, with a particular focus on those in the technology and digital and financial services sectors.

Experience

  • US Tech Company: key employment adviser in large acquisition acting for well-known US multinational technology corporation.
  • BBC: two-year client secondment (August 2018 – August 2020) to the BBC, working on critical equal pay work. Work cumulated in key findings by EHRC that there was no unlawful pay discrimination in the cases analysed during its investigation.
  • Employment Litigation: advising on key TUPE case, exploring complexities in advantageous contractual changes.
  • Financial Sector: acting on behalf of a Main List company, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, in relation to a high stakes unfair dismissal and breach of contract claim which progressed in both the Employment Tribunal and the High Court.
