About

Luke is a senior associate in the firm’s Banking and Finance team. He specialises in project finance, with a particular focus on energy and infrastructure projects, and he regularly advises lenders (including funds, development banks, and DFIs), borrowers, sponsors, and commercial clients.

Luke has extensive experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating documents for a broad range of domestic, cross-border and multi-jurisdictional finance transactions.

He has a particular expertise in advising on project finance transactions in developing markets, and has significant experience in Africa where he regularly advises on notable financings for innovative technologies. Specifically, Luke has advised on several of the largest solar mini-grid portfolio project financings to reach financial close in the continent of Africa.

Experience

  • EDFI ElectriFI and REPP: Advised EDFI and REPP on the LSL 150,000,000 senior debt and equity investment into Sotho Minigrid Portfolio SPV, to finance the construction of a PV solar mini-grid portfolio in Lesotho.
  • Facility for Energy Inclusion: Advised the Facility for Energy Inclusion (managed by Cygnum Capital) on the USD 7.5 million secured financing to MySol Grid Zambia to finance the construction of 60 solar mini-grids in Zambia, connecting over 40,000 people to electricity for the first time.
  • Gravis: Advised Gravis’ infrastructure investment fund on its investment into SolarCatcher, a pioneering UK-based developer of solar-powered electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The transaction won “EV Financing Deal of the Year” and the Electric Vehicle Innovation & Excellence Awards 2023.
  • Green for Growth Fund: Advised the Green for Growth Fund on a €50 million financing for UniCredit Bank Serbia. The facility is to be used to enable UniCredit Bank Serbia to make large-scale loans to renewable energy projects in Serbia, particularly focusing on solar and wind projects.
  • Lender Syndicate: Advising the lending syndicate (including Investec, Allied Irish Banks and Banco Sabadell) on c.£100 million loan facilities to the Greenvolt Group, to finance the acquisition of the Kent Renewable Energy Biomass Plant, a biomass renewable heat and power generation plant in the South East of England.
  • Bluefield Solar Income Fund: Advising BSIF on its entry into a new £200m revolving credit facility and the acquisition of a 93.2MWp UK-based solar and wind portfolio (comprising 15 solar PV projects and 4 wind projects), which is the fund’s largest acquisition to-date bringing its total portfolio of assets to 766MWp.
