Burges Salmon advises Stevenage Borough Council on landmark Station Gateway regeneration project

Picture of Amy Simpson

Our Built Environment sector group has advised Stevenage Borough Council on its partnership with Muse, English Cities Fund (ECF) and Homes England in relation to the £750 million–£1 billion mixed-use redevelopment of Station Gateway, Stevenage.

Station Gateway is a once-in-a-generation regeneration scheme that will transform the area around Stevenage railway station, creating a vibrant new gateway to the town. The masterplan covers up to 30 acres and will deliver high-quality housing, modern workspaces, a 175-key hotel, improved transport links, green infrastructure and local amenities.

The scheme builds on Stevenage’s heritage as one of the UK’s original New Towns and its position as home to world-class businesses in life sciences, defence and aerospace. By providing up to 60,000 sqm of commercial and laboratory space alongside new homes and public spaces, Station Gateway will act as a catalyst for investment and growth.

Our team was led by director Amy Simpson, partner Ross Polkinghorne, and associate Daniella Baker from our Built Environment team, and Construction & Engineering senior associate Owen Watkins.

“We’re proud to have supported Stevenage Borough Council on this transformative project. Station Gateway represents a significant opportunity to unlock growth, attract investment and create a sustainable, future-facing destination that meets the needs of residents, businesses and visitors alike.”

Amy Simpson, Director

“Station Gateway is a truly ambitious project that will redefine the heart of Stevenage and deliver long-term benefits for our community and economy. We are delighted to be working in partnership with ECF and Homes England to bring this vision to life. Our thanks go to Amy and the Burges Salmon team for their excellent advice and deep sector expertise throughout this process; their support has been invaluable in helping us reach this important milestone.”

Dave Wells, Director (Regeneration) at Stevenage Borough Council
