Burges Salmon advises BayWa r.e. on triple solar farm disposal

Picture of Niall Mackle

We have advised BayWa r.e., an international project developer of wind, solar and battery storage (BESS) projects, on the sale of three UK solar farms – Clump Farm in Leicestershire, Fleet Solar Farm in Hampshire and Yanel Solar Farm in North Somerset – to Capital Dynamics, a leading investor in global green energy. The transaction reinforces BayWa r.e.’s position as a trusted developer and supplier of high-quality renewable assets across Europe, driving forward the energy transition.

With a combined capacity of more than 121 MWp and designed to boost biodiversity by improving and protecting the local landscape and environment, Clump Farm and Yanel Solar Farm contribute significantly to the UK’s renewable energy generation. Together, the projects – both of which have received full planning consent – could supply renewable electricity to approximately 30,000 homes each year.

The planned 63MW solar PV project Fleet Solar Farm is due to begin construction in 2027, and will be supported by a government-backed Contract for Difference (CfD) offtake agreement. It will likely begin commercial operations in 2028.

The team advising BayWa r.e. on the disposal was led by partner Danny Lee and senior associate Niall Mackle from the firm’s Corporate and M&A team. Also advising on the transaction were Projects partner Alec Whiter, and director Silvana Van der Velde and solicitor Amy Briscoe from our Tax team.

“We are delighted to have supported BayWa r.e. on this transaction. The sale of these three solar farms marks an important milestone in our client’s strategy to leverage existing assets and reinvest in new renewable developments. These projects reflect the scale and ambition required to accelerate the UK’s transition to clean energy, and we are proud to have played a part in enabling that progress.”

Niall Mackle, Senior Associate

We are proud of the quality and long-term impact of these solar farms and pleased to see them transition to the hands of a strong partner like Capital Dynamics. Looking ahead, we remain committed to delivering high-value renewable projects that accelerate the UK’s clean energy transition, in close collaboration with communities and local stakeholders. We really valued Burges Salmon’s support in helping us to achieve a successful outcome and we were impressed with the team’s understanding of the energy sector.
