Overview

Alec is a senior associate in the energy projects team. Alec has wide-ranging experience of advising developers, investors, Government, funders, licensed suppliers, major energy users and contractors on all aspects of projects, regulation, commercial agreements and project finance transactions in the net zero, energy and waste sectors.

Alec’s expertise includes:  

  • Net zero/energy project and portfolio structuring, joint venture agreements, project development agreements, concession agreements and service agreements;
  • Leading teams advising on the development, acquisition and financing of projects and businesses operating in the energy and net zero sector;
  • The net zero, electricity, gas and heat regulatory regimes, including broader policy, incentive and levy regimes, the industry codes and licensing and trading regimes and conditions;
  • Fuel supply and handling contracts for fuelled generation projects and by-product offtake agreements;
  • Electricity, gas, heat, ancillary product, shipping, balancing, supply and trading agreements;
  • NGESO’s balancing services suite and pathfinder projects; and
  • Electricity, gas and heat grid matters.
Experience
  • Advising Estover, CoGen, Bioenergy Infrastructure Group, JLEN, Ingenious, Palm Paper, NDA, Investec, M&G and the Isle of Wight Council on fuelled generating station / CHP projects and transactions and integrated waste collection, treatment and disposal contracts;
  • Advising Harbour Energy, Zenobe, Forsa, Anesco, Octopus, Arenko, Downing, pumped storage developers and utilities on flexible generation, storage, ESCO, balancing and energy saving projects and transactions;
  • Advising Bluefield, Vattenfall, EMEC, Wind 2, GIG, Marubeni, Engie and Peel on solar PV, onshore, offshore and remote island wind, hydro, wave and tidal projects and transactions;
  • Advising Good Energy, LoCO2 (now part of EDF), Osaka, Octopus, Hanwha and NDA on various electricity and gas regulatory, trading, operational and investment matters;
  • Advising various institutional landlords and major energy users on private networks and electricity, gas, heat and ancillary product trading and supply agreements, including corporate PPAs;
  • Advising Ofgem in connection with various regulatory regimes and industry code matters.
