About

Alec is a partner in the our Energy and Net Zero projects team.

He has wide-ranging experience of advising developers, investors, government, funders, utilities, major energy users and contractors on all aspects of projects, regulation, commercial agreements and project finance transactions in the energy and net zero sectors. This expertise includes:

  • Net zero/energy project and portfolio structuring, joint venture agreements, project development agreements, concession agreements and service agreements.
  • Leading teams advising on the development, acquisition and financing of projects and businesses operating in the energy and net zero sector.
  • The net zero, electricity, gas (including hydrogen) and heat regulatory regimes, including broader policy, incentive and levy regimes, the industry codes and licensing and trading regimes and conditions.
  • Investigations by regulators in relation to potential breaches of industry rules, licence conditions and/or regulations.
  • Fuel supply and handling contracts for fueled generation projects and by-product offtake agreements.
  • Electricity, gas, heat, ancillary product, shipping, balancing, supply and trading agreements.
  • NGESO’s balancing services suite and pathfinder projects.
  • Electricity, gas and heat grid matters.

Experience

  • Advising clients such as CIP, Brookfield, Drax, Atlantic Green, Forsa Energy, Kona Energy, pumped storage developers, utilities and many others on flexible generation, storage, grid stability, balancing and energy saving projects and transactions.
  • Advising clients across the sector including Aura Power, Gravis Capital, NatWest, Aukera, EMEC, Ampyr Solar Europe, Investec, Clean Energy Cap and EDC on grid, revenue generation and regulatory matters for all types of generating technologies.
  • Advising developers of projects and infrastructure with a future material energy demand on securing and maintaining energy capacity, second comer principles, iDNO involvement and energy development opportunities.
  • Advising licensees and other clients on electricity and gas regulatory, trading, operational and investment matters, as well as on investigations by regulators.
  • Advising major energy users including data center operators, vertical farming developers, airport operators, water companies and landlords on all types of energy supply, hedging and concession arrangements, private network arrangements and grid matters.
  • Government: Advising on various regulatory regimes and industry code matters.
