Hydrogen

Comprehensive legal advice and industry insights to help businesses navigate the emerging hydrogen market.

Engineer With Tablet Computer On A Background Of Hydrogen Factory.

Low Carbon hydrogen industry is rapidly gaining momentum as a critical component of the global transition to clean energy.

Hydrogen is versatile and can be used to decarbonise those sectors that cannot easily electrify such as heavy goods vehicles off road machinery, certain heavy industry and heating.  However, it also brings complex regulatory, commercial, and technological challenges.

Burges Salmon’s unique strength lies in its deep expertise across the key sectors of energy, transport, infrastructure, and the built environment, with many of our lawyers recognised as leaders in these fields.

We have been advising on hydrogen projects for many years, particularly in the electrolyser sector. Our lawyers are at the heart of the hydrogen conversation in the UK. We hold positions on the Executive of the UK Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association, and have sat on the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy’s Hydrogen Task Force working group for standards and regulation. We also work closely with the Department for International Trade, promoting industry dialogue through regular round-table events and seminars.

Our work spans all forms of hydrogen, from large clusters to bespoke on-site green hydrogen solutions. We collaborate closely with renewable energy providers and hydrogen producers, while also supporting the demand side by exploring future supplies and uses of hydrogen.
